# Documents and decision points

Practical explanations of the documents, outcomes and conditions you meet when buying a house in Amsterdam.

## Check the purpose of every document

Before requesting a document, ask which decision it should support. A purchase contract records the agreement between buyer and seller. Owners’ association records show management and maintenance. Leasehold records show which rights and payments belong to the land.

Keep the date, sender and question beside each record. Put missing items on a separate list and discuss the effect with your estate agent, notary or adviser.

The [steps for buying a house in Amsterdam](/en/guides/buying-a-house-in-amsterdam-step-by-step/) connects documents to the purchase stage. The [terms page](/en/subject/) helps when a word in a deed or attachment is unclear.
